Proto
"Proto" is a prefix derived from the Greek word "protos," meaning "first" or "primary." It is used to signify the original, earliest, or first form of something. For example, in the context of "prototype," which refers to the initial or preliminary model of something from which other forms are developed or copied, "proto" indicates the foundational or primary version. Thus, "proto" describes anything that serves as an original model or the first instance of a concept, object, or process.
There’s a lot to be said about being first. The one that everyone else is measured by.
The one that starts the day.
And the one that does it a new way.
The precursor. The blueprint. The vanguard.
And while we may not be the first to roast coffee, we like to think we’re the first to do it right.
From the first step...
Coffee farming begins with selecting and planting the right seeds, a critical "first" step that determines the quality and flavour of the coffee. Farmers choose high-quality, disease-resistant seeds suitable for their climate and altitude. These seeds are nurtured in nurseries until they are strong enough to be transplanted. The farm's location, with specific climatic conditions, and proper soil preparation are essential for optimal growth. Higher altitudes often produce beans with better acidity and complex flavours. This meticulous first step lays the foundation for the entire coffee production process, ensuring a high-quality cup.
From the first moment...
In the first moments of any given day, your first thought is coffee.Beyond the early hours of the day, coffee is there for many other firsts. Taking a first date to your favourite cafe. Asking a new colleague which cupboard the mugs are in. Showing up on moving day with coffee for the whole crew. Each new experience enhanced with the bold and balanced taste of Proto. Meaning ‘first’, Proto believes in not only the importance of high quality coffee, but the significance of these first moments of connection. Making a good first impression on our newest customers and a lasting one on the farmers we’ve worked with for years. Both relationships built on moments shared over a cup of our hand-crafted roast.
